Vaiśampāyana said: On hearing these words of Bhīṣma, the immensely valorous king of Cedi desired to fight with Vāsudeva and spoke to Vāsudeva,
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: भीष्म के इन शब्दों को सुनकर, चेदि के अत्यंत वीर राजा ने वासुदेव से युद्ध करने की इच्छा की और वासुदेव से कहा,
"O Janārdana! I am challenging you to battle. Come and fight with me, until I have killed you, along with all the Pāṇḍava-s.
"हे जनार्दन! मैं तुम्हें युद्ध के लिए ललकार रहा हूँ। आओ और मेरे साथ तब तक लड़ो, जब तक मैं तुम्हें समस्त पांडवों सहित मार न डालूँ।"

O Kṛṣṇā! Together with you, the Pāṇḍava-s also deserve to be killed, since they have passed over the kings and worshipped you, who is not a king.
हे कृष्ण! आपके साथ-साथ पांडव भी मारे जाने के योग्य हैं, क्योंकि उन्होंने राजाओं से आगे बढ़कर आपकी पूजा की है, जो राजा नहीं हैं।

O Kṛṣṇā! It is my view that I must kill them. The evil-minded ones have acted like children and have offered homage to an undeserving one who is a slave and not a king." Having uttered these words, that tiger among kings stood up and roared in anger.
हे कृष्ण! मेरा विचार है कि मुझे उन्हें अवश्य ही मार डालना चाहिए। दुष्टबुद्धि लोगों ने बालकों के समान आचरण किया है और एक अयोग्य व्यक्ति को, जो राजा नहीं, बल्कि दास है, प्रणाम किया है।'' इतना कहकर राजाओं में वह बाघ खड़ा हो गया और क्रोध से दहाड़ने लगा।
Having heard these words, in the presence of all the kings and the Pāṇḍava-s, Kṛṣṇā replied in a soft voice.
इन शब्दों को सुनकर, सभी राजाओं और पांडवों की उपस्थिति में, कृष्ण ने धीमी आवाज में उत्तर दिया।
"O kings! This son of a lady of the Sātvata lineage is a great enemy of the Sātvata clan. Though we have never done him harm, the cruel-minded one always seeks to injure us.
"हे राजाओं! सात्वत वंश की स्त्री का यह पुत्र सात्वत कुल का बहुत बड़ा शत्रु है। हालाँकि हमने उसे कभी नुकसान नहीं पहुँचाया है, लेकिन क्रूर दिमाग वाला व्यक्ति हमेशा हमें नुकसान पहुँचाने की कोशिश करता है।
O kings! Hearing that we had gone to the city of Prāgjyotiṣa, this cruel one came and burnt down Dvārakā, though he is my father's sister's son.
हे राजाओं! यह सुनकर कि हम प्रागज्योतिष नगर में गये थे, यह क्रूर व्यक्ति आया और द्वारका को जला डाला, यद्यपि वह मेरे पिता की बहन का पुत्र है।

When the royal ones from Bhojā were sporting themselves on Mount Raivataka, he killed and captured all of them and took them to his own city.
जब भोज के शाही लोग रैवतक पर्वत पर खेल रहे थे, तो उसने उन सभी को मार डाला और पकड़ लिया और उन्हें अपने शहर में ले गया।
With certain evil in his heart, he wished to obstruct my father's sacrifice and stole the horse of the aśvamedha, though it was surrounded by guards.

The famous Babhru's wife-to-be was travelling to the Sauvīra region to be married. But out of delusion and desire, he abducted her.
प्रसिद्ध बभ्रू की होने वाली पत्नी शादी करने के लिए सौवीर क्षेत्र की यात्रा कर रही थी। लेकिन उसने मोह और इच्छा से उसका अपहरण कर लिया।
He was cruelly disposed towards his maternal uncle, the ascetic Kārūṣa and used his powers of māyā to abduct Bhadrā of Viśālā.
वह अपने मामा, तपस्वी करुश के प्रति क्रूर था और उसने विशाला के भद्र का अपहरण करने के लिए अपनी माया की शक्तियों का उपयोग किया था।
For the sake of my father's sister, I have borne a great deal of unhappiness. However, it is fortunate that this is happening before all these kings.

You are now witness to the malevolence he bears towards me. Know also the deeds that he has performed secretly.
अब आप उस द्वेष के गवाह हैं जो वह मेरे प्रति रखता है। यह भी जान लो कि उसने गुप्त रूप से क्या-क्या काम किये हैं।
I can no longer pardon his offence today. He deserves to be killed only because of his insolence in front of this assembly of kings.
आज मैं उसका अपराध क्षमा नहीं कर सकता। राजाओं की इस सभा के सामने अपनी धृष्टता के कारण ही वह वध के योग्य है।

रुक्मिण्यामस्य मूढस्य प्रार्थनासीन्मुमूर्षतः न च तां प्राप्तवान्मूढः शूद्रो वेदश्रुतिं यथा
Desiring a speedy death, this fool once offered himself to Rukmiṇī. But the fool did not obtain her, the way a śūdra cannot hear the Veda-s."
शीघ्र मृत्यु की इच्छा रखते हुए, इस मूर्ख ने एक बार खुद को रुक्मिणी को अर्पित कर दिया था। परन्तु मूर्ख ने उसे प्राप्त नहीं किया, जिस प्रकार शूद्र वेदों को नहीं सुन सकता।"
Having heard these words of Vāsudeva, all the assembled kings began to censure the king of Cedi.
वासुदेव के ये वचन सुनकर सभी एकत्रित राजा चेदी राजा की निंदा करने लगे।
Having heard these words, the powerful Śiśupāla burst into laughter and uttered these scornful words.
इन शब्दों को सुनकर, शक्तिशाली शिशुपाल हँस पड़ा और उसने ये अपमानजनक शब्द कहे।

मत्पूर्वां रुक्मिणीं कृष्ण संसत्सु परिकीर्तयन् विशेषतः पार्थिवेषु व्रीडां न कुरुषे कथम्
"O Kṛṣṇā! Are you not ashamed to recount this, especially before all these kings? Rukmiṇī was mine first.
"हे कृष्ण! क्या आपको यह वर्णन करते हुए शर्म नहीं आती, खासकर इन सभी राजाओं के सामने? रुक्मिणी सबसे पहले मेरी थीं।
O Madhusūdana! No self-respecting man but you will admit before respectable ones that his wife had been someone else's first.
हे मधुसूदन! कोई भी स्वाभिमानी आदमी नहीं, लेकिन आप सम्माननीय लोगों के सामने स्वीकार करेंगे कि उसकी पत्नी पहले किसी और की थी।

क्षम वा यदि ते श्रद्धा मा वा कृष्ण मम क्षम क्रुद्धाद्वापि प्रसन्नाद्वा किं मे त्वत्तो भविष्यति
O Kṛṣṇā! Pardon me. Whether you pardon me or whether you show me respect, whether you bear friendship or enmity towards me, what can you possibly do to me?"
हे कृष्ण! मुझे क्षमा करें। चाहे तुम मुझे क्षमा करो या चाहे मेरा आदर करो, चाहे तुम मेरे प्रति मित्रता रखो या शत्रुता, तुम मेरा क्या कर सकते हो?”

तथा ब्रुवत एवास्य भगवान्मधुसूदनः व्यपाहरच्छिरः क्रुद्धश्चक्रेणामित्रकर्षणः स पपात महाबाहुर्वज्राहत इवाचलः
When he was talking in this way, the illustrious Madhusūdana, the destroyer of his enemies, angrily sliced off his head with the cakra. The mighty-armed one fell down like a mountain struck by the vajra.
जब वह इस प्रकार बोल रहा था, तब शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले महाबली मधुसूदन ने क्रोधपूर्वक चक्र से उसका सिर काट डाला। वह महाबाहु वज्र की चोट से पर्वत के समान नीचे गिर पड़ा।

ततश्चेदिपतेर्देहात्तेजोऽग्र्यं ददृशुर्नृपाः उत्पतन्तं महाराज गगनादिव भास्करम्
The kings saw a terrible energy rise up from the body of the Cedi king. O great king! It was like the sun rising in the sky.
राजाओं ने देखा कि सेडी राजा के शरीर से एक भयानक ऊर्जा उभर रही है। हे महान राजा! यह ऐसा था मानो आकाश में सूर्य उग रहा हो।
O lord of men! That energy then paid homage to the lotuseyed Kṛṣṇā, worshipped by the worlds, and entered his body.
हे मनुष्यों के स्वामी! तब उस शक्ति ने लोक द्वारा पूजित कमलनयन कृष्ण को प्रणाम किया और उनके शरीर में प्रवेश कर गयी।
On seeing the energy enter the mighty-armed one, supreme among all beings, all of the lords of the earth thought that this was extraordinary.
सभी प्राणियों में सर्वोच्च, महाबाहु में ऊर्जा को प्रवेश करते देख, पृथ्वी के सभी राजाओं ने सोचा कि यह असाधारण है।
When the Cedi was killed by Kṛṣṇā, the cloudless sky poured forth rain. The earth trembled and blazing lightning struck.
जब कृष्ण द्वारा सेदि को मार दिया गया, तो बादल रहित आकाश से वर्षा होने लगी। पृथ्वी कांप उठी और चमकती बिजली गिरी।
Some of those lords of the earth did not speak a word. At a time when these indescribable things were happening, they looked on at Janārdana.
पृथ्वी के उन प्रभुओं में से कुछ ने एक शब्द भी नहीं बोला। जिस समय ये अवर्णनीय बातें घटित हो रही थीं, उन्होंने जनार्दन की ओर देखा।
Some angrily rubbed one hand with the tip of another. Others bit their lips, losing their senses in anger.
कुछ ने गुस्से में एक हाथ को दूसरे हाथ की नोक से रगड़ा। दूसरों ने क्रोध में होश खोकर अपने होंठ चबाये।
But there were other kings who privately praised Vārṣṇeya. Some were angry. Others were in the middle.
लेकिन ऐसे अन्य राजा भी थे जिन्होंने निजी तौर पर वार्ष्णेय की प्रशंसा की। कुछ नाराज थे. बाकी लोग बीच में थे.
The maharṣi-s were delighted and went to Keśava and praised him. So did the great-souled brāhmana-s and the immensely powerful kings.
महर्षि प्रसन्न हुए और केशव के पास गए और उनकी स्तुति की। महात्मा ब्राह्मणों और अत्यंत शक्तिशाली राजाओं ने भी ऐसा ही किया।

पाण्डवस्त्वब्रवीद्भ्रातॄन्सत्कारेण महीपतिम् दमघोषात्मजं वीरं संसाधयत मा चिरम् तथा च कृतवन्तस्ते भ्रातुर्वै शासनं तदा
Pāṇḍava then instructed his brothers to perform the funeral rites for the brave lord of the earth who had been Damaghoṣa's son. The brothers followed these instructions.
तब पांडव ने अपने भाइयों को पृथ्वी के बहादुर स्वामी, जो दमघोष का पुत्र था, का अंतिम संस्कार करने का निर्देश दिया। भाइयों ने इन निर्देशों का पालन किया।
Then Pārtha, with all the other lords of the earth, instated his son in the kingdom of Cedi.
तब पार्थ ने, पृथ्वी के अन्य सभी राजाओं के साथ, अपने पुत्र को सेदी के राज्य में स्थापित किया।
O king! Then occurred the sacrifice of the king of the Kuru-s and brought prosperity to everyone and joy to the young, with an abundance of opulence —
हे राजा! तब कुरु-राजा का यज्ञ हुआ और सभी के लिए समृद्धि और युवाओं के लिए खुशी, प्रचुर ऐश्वर्य लाया -

शान्तविघ्नः सुखारम्भः प्रभूतधनधान्यवान् अन्नवान्बहुभक्ष्यश्च केशवेन सुरक्षितः
with great quantities of riches and grain, large amounts of food and eatables, auspicious in its beginnings and with the obstructions to peace removed. It was protected by Keśava.
बड़ी मात्रा में धन और धान्य, बड़ी मात्रा में भोजन और खाने योग्य सामग्री के साथ, इसकी शुरुआत में शुभ और शांति में बाधाएं दूर हो गईं। इसकी रक्षा केशव ने की थी।
Until the great sacrifice of rājasūya was completed, the mighty-armed Janārdana, the lord Śauri, the wielder of the śārṅga, cakra and club, guarded it.
जब तक राजसूय का महान यज्ञ पूरा नहीं हो गया, महाबाहु जनार्दन, भगवान शौरी, शारंग, चक्र और गदा के धारक, इसकी रक्षा करते रहे।
On completion, after Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira had bathed, all the kṣatriya kings came to him and uttered these words.
पूरा होने पर, धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर के स्नान करने के बाद, सभी क्षत्रिय राजा उनके पास आए और ये शब्द बोले।
"O Ājamīḍha! O one who is knowledgeable in dharma! Your prosperity has been extended. You have obtained sovereignty. Your fame has been extended. O Indra among kings! With this deed, you have accomplished a great act for dharma.
"हे अजमीढ़! हे धर्म के जानकार! आपकी समृद्धि बढ़ गई है। आपने संप्रभुता प्राप्त कर ली है। आपकी प्रसिद्धि बढ़ गई है। हे राजाओं के बीच इंद्र! इस कार्य के साथ, आपने धर्म के लिए एक महान कार्य पूरा किया है।
O tiger among men! We crave your leave. We have been shown homage in every way we desire. We now wish to return to our own kingdoms. Please grant us leave."
हे मनुष्यों में बाघ! हम आपकी छुट्टी चाहते हैं. हमें हर तरह से हमारी इच्छानुसार श्रद्धांजलि दी गई है। अब हम अपने राज्य में लौटना चाहते हैं। कृपया हमें छुट्टी दे दीजिए।”
On hearing these words of the kings, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira worshipped each king as he deserved and told all his brothers,
राजाओं के ये वचन सुनकर धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर ने प्रत्येक राजा की यथायोग्य पूजा की और अपने सभी भाइयों से कहा,
"All these kings have assembled here out of their own pleasure. These scorchers of enemies are now leaving for their own kingdoms and are seeking my permission. O fortunate ones! Conduct these kings to the ends of our kingdom."
"ये सभी राजा अपनी खुशी से यहां इकट्ठे हुए हैं। शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले ये अब अपने राज्यों को जा रहे हैं और मेरी अनुमति मांग रहे हैं। हे भाग्यशाली लोगों! इन राजाओं को हमारे राज्य के अंत तक ले चलो।"
The Pāṇḍava-s were always followers of dharma. Hearing their brother's instructions, they followed each principal king, as each one deserved.
पांडव सदैव धर्म के अनुयायी थे। अपने भाई के निर्देशों को सुनकर, उन्होंने प्रत्येक प्रमुख राजा का अनुसरण किया, जैसा कि प्रत्येक ने करना उचित समझा।
O king! The powerful Dhṛṣṭadyumna quickly conducted Virāṭa, the mahāratha Dhanañjayā the great-souled Yajñasena,

Other bulls among the kṣatriya-s conducted other kṣatriya-s. And worshipped properly, all the brāhmana-s departed.
क्षत्रियों के बीच अन्य बैलों ने अन्य क्षत्रियों का संचालन किया। और विधिपूर्वक पूजा करके सभी ब्राह्मण चले गए।
O bull among the Bhārata lineage! On the departure of all the lords among kings and the brāhmana-s, the powerful Vāsudeva spoke to Yudhiṣṭhira.
हे भरत वंश में बैल! राजाओं और ब्राह्मणों के बीच सभी राजाओं के चले जाने पर, शक्तिशाली वासुदेव ने युधिष्ठिर से बात की।
"O son of the Kuru lineage! I seek your leave to go to Dvārakā. Through good fortune, you have achieved rājasūya, supreme among sacrifices."
"हे कुरु वंश के पुत्र! मैं द्वारका जाने के लिए आपकी अनुमति चाहता हूं। अच्छे भाग्य से, आपने यज्ञों में सर्वोच्च राजसूय प्राप्त कर लिया है।"
Having been thus addressed, Dharmarāja told Madhusūdana, "O Govinda! It is through your favour that I have achieved this supreme sacrifice.
इस प्रकार संबोधित किए जाने पर, धर्मराज ने मधुसूदन से कहा, "हे गोविंद! यह आपके अनुग्रह के माध्यम से है कि मैंने यह सर्वोच्च बलिदान प्राप्त किया है।
Through your grace, all the kṣatriya-s have come under my sway and have attended upon me, bringing rich tributes.
आपकी कृपा से, सभी क्षत्रिय मेरे वश में आ गए हैं और उन्होंने मेरी सेवा की है, और भरपूर श्रद्धांजलि दी है।
O brave one! Without you, we will find no pleasure. But of course you must go to the city of Dvāravatī."
हे वीर! तुम्हारे बिना, हमें कोई खुशी नहीं मिलेगी. लेकिन निश्चित रूप से आपको द्वारावती शहर जाना होगा।"
Having been thus addressed, the greatly famous Harī, with the righteous Yudhiṣṭhira with him, went to Pṛthā and affectionately said,
इस प्रकार संबोधित किये जाने पर, अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध हरि, धर्मात्मा युधिष्ठिर को अपने साथ लेकर, पृथा के पास गये और स्नेहपूर्वक बोले,
"O father's sister! Your sons have now obtained sovereignty and have obtained success and great riches.
"हे पिता की बहन! आपके पुत्रों ने अब संप्रभुता प्राप्त कर ली है और सफलता और महान धन प्राप्त कर लिया है।
You should be pleased. Please grant me leave so that I can return to Dvārakā." Keśava then bade farewell to Subhadrā and Draupadī.
आपको प्रसन्न होना चाहिए. कृपया मुझे छुट्टी दें ताकि मैं द्वारका लौट सकूं।" इसके बाद केशव ने सुभद्रा और द्रौपदी को विदाई दी।

निष्क्रम्यान्तःपुराच्चैव युधिष्ठिरसहायवान् स्नातश्च कृतजप्यश्च ब्राह्मणान्स्वस्ति वाच्य च
Then, accompanied by Yudhiṣṭhira, he came out of the inner quarters. O great king! After he had bathed and prayed and the brāhmana-s had blessed him,
फिर वे युधिष्ठिर के साथ अन्तःपुर से बाहर आये। हे महान राजा! जब उसने स्नान करके प्रार्थना की और ब्राह्मणों ने उसे आशीर्वाद दिया,
Dāruka yoked the beautifully constructed chariot that looked like a cloud and came. It had the great Gāruḍa on the banner.
दारुक ने सुन्दर रूप से निर्मित मेघ के समान दिखने वाले रथ को जोत लिया और आ गया। इसके बैनर पर महान गरुड़ थे।
The great-souled Pundariksha then circumambulated it and ascending, departed for the city of Dvāravatī.
फिर महात्मा पुण्डरीक्ष ने उसकी परिक्रमा की और ऊपर चढ़कर द्वारवती नगर के लिए प्रस्थान किया।
The fortunate Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira, accompanied by his brothers, followed the immensely strong Vāsudeva on foot.
भाग्यशाली धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर अपने भाइयों के साथ पैदल ही परम बलशाली वासुदेव के पीछे-पीछे चल पड़े।
Then Pundariksha Harī stopped the supreme chariot for a moment and spoke to Yudhiṣṭhira, Kuntī's son.
तब पुण्डरीक्ष हरि ने क्षण भर के लिए परम रथ को रोका और कुंती पुत्र युधिष्ठिर से बोले।
"O lord of the earth! Always remain steadfast in protecting your subjects, just as the god of rain protects all beings and a large tree protects all birds. May you be the refuge of your relatives, like the thousand-eyed one is of the immortals."
"हे पृथ्वी के स्वामी! अपनी प्रजा की रक्षा में सदैव दृढ़ रहो, जैसे वर्षा के देवता सभी प्राणियों की रक्षा करते हैं और एक बड़ा वृक्ष सभी पक्षियों की रक्षा करता है। आप अपने रिश्तेदारों के आश्रय बनें, जैसे अमर लोगों में हजार आंखों वाला होता है।"
After conversing with each other, Kṛṣṇā and the Pāṇḍava-s took each other's leave and went to their houses.
एक-दूसरे से बातचीत करने के बाद, कृष्ण और पांडवों ने एक-दूसरे से विदा ली और अपने घर चले गए।

O king! When Kṛṣṇā, supreme among the Sātvata-s, had left for Dvāravatī, only Duryodhana and Saubala Śākuni, bulls among men, remained in that celestial sabhā.
हे राजा! जब सात्वत-वंशियों में सर्वोच्च कृष्ण द्वारवती के लिए रवाना हुए, तो केवल दुर्योधन और सौबल शकुनि, पुरुषों में बैल, उस दिव्य सभा में बचे थे।
